Outpatient therapy that meets you where you are in life.
We work with a broad range of concerns and a wide span of ages. If you are not sure whether what you are dealing with is something we treat, reach out and ask. The answer is almost always yes.
Individual Therapy
This is the core of what we do. You come in, you work with a therapist who understands your goals, and you start building toward something different. We do not believe in endless sessions without direction. From the first appointment, your therapist will work with you to identify what you want your life to look like and what is getting in the way of that. Then you build a real plan together.
We work with adults, teens, and children ages 3 and up.
Couples Therapy
Couples come to us for all kinds of reasons. Some are in crisis. Some are not in crisis but want to do better. Some are trying to repair trust after something painful. All of them are welcome. We work with couples who want to improve communication, rebuild connection, or navigate something specific that has come between them. Asking for help is not a sign that something is broken. It is a sign that you care enough to try.
Trauma and PTSD
Every therapist at MHWC holds advanced training in trauma treatment. That is not an accident. We believe that anyone seeking therapy may have a trauma history, and we want every person who comes to us to be working with someone who is genuinely prepared to support them. For clients who need specialized trauma processing, several of our therapists hold additional certifications in evidence-based trauma treatment including Cognitive Processing Therapy and somatic approaches.
Substance Use and Recovery
We have therapists who specialize in substance use disorders and have built careers in this space. Our work here is outpatient only, and it is built around the understanding that addiction is not a character flaw. We work with individuals and families navigating active recovery, relapse, and the complex life circumstances that often surround substance use. We also have therapists who specialize in co-occurring disorders, where mental health and substance use overlap.
Children and Adolescents
We see children as young as 3 and work with them using approaches that are appropriate for where they are developmentally. For younger kids that often means play-based approaches. For teens it means creating a space where they actually feel comfortable enough to open up. We work closely with parents and families when that is part of what the child needs.
Somatic and Body-Mind Approaches
Several of our clinicians are trained in somatic therapy, which means working with the body as part of the healing process. This is especially relevant for trauma, chronic stress, and situations where talk therapy alone has not been enough. Our approaches in this area include somatic exercises, Qigong, Tai Chi, tapping techniques, and mindfulness practices. The body holds what the mind sometimes cannot access on its own, and we treat it that way.
Telehealth
We offer telehealth sessions for clients throughout Utah. If you are not located near our Salt Lake City or Sandy offices, or if you simply prefer meeting from home, we can make that work. Telehealth appointments are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Several of our therapists offer a mix of in-person and remote sessions depending on your preference.
If you are dealing with it, we have probably worked with it.
This is not an exhaustive list. If you do not see what you are looking for, reach out. We will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit or whether we can point you somewhere better.
